Dunderberg, Bald Mountain

There are several places on 9W where you can park and start this hike. After a steep climb for the first 30-45 min, you will be rewarded with wonderful views of the Bear Mountain and the Hudson River. A failed attempt to build a pleasure railway line in the late 19th century left behind unfinished tunnels, loose granite blocks and half paved road. Over time Mother nature reclaimed the land with wild flowers and dense woods. A wonderful hiking trail was built on top the old remains of the railway road.
